Watch Me Sitting Up!

Sitting up with Daddy's help

(leaning agst his cushy arm, so comfy and secure!)

Sitting Up All By Myself

(though I have to balance with a hand up! Woo.. So scared of falling.. Quick, finished snapping?)

Toy On Hands..

Baby Kaikai has found a new toy in his own hands! Lately, he has found immense pleasure staring at his little hands, esp the right one, and after some fascination at his discovery, he stuffs it into his mouth, suckling at it tastefully. Initially, we only found him doing it when he's hungry, and recently, it's become his pastime! His mittens are at times wet with his saliva and occasionally smelly when we put our noses near.. We've tried taking his mittens off and he takes the hand in like a much-awaited-for drumstick.. Yuckie little piglet..

Ang GooGooGoo.. Gimme A Smile, KaiKai!

Since last week, Kaikai's learnt how to express his likes by smiling and cooing. From the day we were rewarded by his smiles and coos, we were charmed and started capturing these precious milestones on camera! It's not as easy as we thought it would be! Everytime we whip out the cam, in the shortest time possible, the smiles are gone and no matter how hard we clown ourselves, he just ignores our attempts.. Hng..

Later, I learnt (from a parenting book) that babies prefer human faces and voices over other sights and sounds and would choose to smile at faces and voices. And so, the camera should never block our faces when attempting to snap a baby's smile. After several days and over a trillion shots, I finally got a couple of smiles on the cam! Ha, what an achievement!

And of course, some funny facial expressions that Kaikai came up with while I experimented, from frowning to displaying impatience.. Hmmm.. More recently, our little fren presented his 1st pout, turning his lips into an upside-down U and looking incredibly pitiful and adorable at the same time. As you might have guessed, capturing that silly pout's gonna be my next project! :p

p.s. I highly recommend the book mentioned earlier to all parents and would-be mummies/daddies, cuz it teaches you how to understand your babies and offers really valuable insights for nurturing a happy baby! It's titled "The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems" by Tracy Hogg and Melinda Blau, available @ Kinokuniya!

An Eventful Day - 27 Sep

It was a busy day for all of us.

In the morning, we had to wake the little one at 8 plus (fyi, he usually wakes till 11-12 plus) for his 2nd Hep B jab @ Pasir Ris Polyclinic. Just thinking abt the injection on Keegan was a nerve-wrecking thought for us, but our prince was not in the know. To lighten the mood, we snapped away outside the dreaded room, while the public looked on. They must be thinking, "Siao ah, never come Polyclinic before ah, still muz take photos.. Wu liao!"

The little boy howled his lungs out the moment the needle went into his thigh.. Sigh.. More to go, my dear baby..

Next up, a shopping trip to Orchard was in the plans. You might have guessed that it's quite a challenge to bring a baby out, and it's more so when Keegan's on total breastfeeding. We had to choose the malls that had nursing facilities and fit our shopping venues into his feeding schedule. Being 1st-time Daddy & Mummy, little did we know that a baby does not follow a perfectly-planned schedule. And so, our friend cried and screamed for his makan at the most crowded places -- Crystal Jade, Taka Kids' Dept, etc. So malu!

And our day's not ended yet! We went over to Ah Bu's (grandauntie) house to pay her a visit, where Baby had his evening bath in an ultra-small basin.

The long day ended with dinner at the Yacht Club and with him screaming again, for his milk-milk..

~ Several lessons learnt:
1) To be observant and watch for hunger cues;
2) Not putting Baby on our schedule, but rather, to fit our plans into his :p

Baby Keegan Ong Came to Earth - 22 August 2007

On the 22nd of August 2007, a cute baby boy came to Earth and became part of the Ong family. He is Baby Keegan Ong. Mother Xin had to endure over 16 hours of labour before the angel was born. With a weight of 3.250kg and length of 50cm, Keegan is a healthy boy. I am finally a father after 9 months of waiting... Welcome to the Family, KEEGAN!
